The Clubhouse Newsletter - Welcome to the new season

This is our first newsletter of the new season and what a great one it promises to be. If you haven’t already heard, there has been tons and tons and tons of snow in Chamonix.

Parts of Les Houches and Les Grand Montets have been open since late November (more than three weeks earlier than last year) and pretty much everything will be open by this Saturday the 17 December. The whole of Courmayeur is already open.
We really need another metre to make the most of some of the best off-piste fields but skiing empty pistes in afternoon sunshine in early December has been brilliant.

There’s quite a bit to get through but stick with it please as there’s some important new stuff to tell you about.

The Clubhouse is open
From today we are fully open for breakfast, lunch, free tea, coffee and WiFi, the après-skibee freebie, massages in The Kumari Room, dinner and drinks. Our first guests check in tonight. Breakfast is served from 7.30am and the bar is open until 2am with a bartender on duty from noon. Please see below for details of our new dinner ideas and speciality food nights.

New for 05/06
We’ve spent the last month dusting off and opening up after the closed season and have made lots of improvements to the building. The bar and dining room still look great but we’ve made changes to The Den and The Bob (the bit outside the boot room) for reading, PS2 playing and DVD/Sky sports watching.

New food
We’ve got a new great chef, Mark Webb, who has worked at La Trompette and Chez Bruce in London , and he will be in charge of the kitchen throughout the season. Four nights of the week every Mon, Wed, Thu and Sat we serve a three-course, three-choice dinner. This year, we have two dinner sittings at 7pm and 9pm. It’s a good idea to book if you plan to eat here with us because space is limited. Menus for the week are usually displayed around The Clubhouse (but they can be subject to change, so please check).

In addition to our  Steak & Lobster Snow BBQ, new group food for this season includes a Giant Paella every Friday and a Grande Tartiflette every Sunday.

New Parking
Yee haa! This year we’ve also got a few more parking spaces under the trees alongside The Clubhouse so you might find it easier to grab a spot. If you plan on coming and going a lot, we can lend you one of our gate buzzers for a €100 deposit (they cost a lot to replace if you lose one).

New deals and discounts
We’ve lined up a few more discounts and deals for you at a couple of shops in town. There are new 10% discounts at Ogier Sports (the poshest snow shop in Cham) for kit, ski, board and boot hire and Iris Optique for sunglasses and goggles.

New names for the rooms
We’ve renamed the upstairs rooms The Red Room, The Black Room and The Blue Room. Not very imaginative but they used to be known as Room 1, Room 2 and Room 3! We’ll change the names again next year no doubt. They’re so named for their snazzy new wallpaper.

Last minute Myla
If you’re fast, and fancy some stress-free, pre-Christmas snow, the Myla Suite could be yours for four nights from Wed 14 to Sun 18 Dec for €650 (circa £465) half board. Contact Lori, Rachel or Poppy at The Clubhouse by email or on +33 4 50 90 96 56. You could be on a plane tonight and on Les Grands Montets by 10am tomorrow! If you book a late return on Sunday, that’s four full days on the slopes. Come on!

General room availability for Dec and Jan
Almost every single room is now already booked, from Wed-Sun, until early April but we still have some good early week rooms available as well as the following last minute slots for Dec and Jan:

  • Sun 18 to Wed 28 Dec
Bunker 6 is available for 10 days over Christmas. Unbelievable! These 10 nights will cost you just €4,500 (£3,215, or around £54 pp per night half board).

  • Sun 29 J an to Wed 01 Feb
The Black Room is available for 3 nights for €850 (£610) as are Bunker 4 and Bunker 6 for €975 (£700) and €1475 (£1055) respectively.

Transfers
We are back running our own direct and private transfers again this year because it’s the only way we can ensure you have any chance of getting a decent ride to and from Geneva . Renting your own car is still probably the best option, but, as well as the van we’ve got now got two BMW X5s to pick you up and drop you off. Transfer costs and details are here.

EasyJet from Stansted
EasyJet now fly to Geneva from Stansted.

That’s it for now. I’ll email you again in a week or so with more snow reports.
