Happy New Year
from everyone at The Clubhouse.
After a busy Christmas and New
Year we’ve settled into a relaxed early 2006 and things are running pretty
much as they should be . . . apart from the odd lift at Les Grands
Montets.
Well we needed some more snow and we’ve had some. We’d
still like a bit more to make the most of the off-piste but the last few
days have been great with fresh falls three days in a row. After some
freezing days when it got as low as -28˚ things have now warmed up a
little.
New
for 2006
New
lift There’s a
brand new 6 seater lift at La Flégère to replace the old green hooded
thing that went up L’Index.
New food at
The Clubhouse We’ve
changed things a bit this year and already we’ve seen the difference with
the dining room pretty much fully booked every night. Here’s some of the
new food stuff that we’re doing:
New
après-skibee freebie Every day this
year (except Sunday) from 4-6pm (or earlier if it runs out) there’ll be a
giant, help-yourself pot of something hot and bubbling with sides and
bites for dipping.
Think: cheese fondue with bread and roast
potatoes; hot spicy tomato salsa with crudités; bubbling blue cheese and
celery sticks; hot Texan chilli with baked beans and Graham crackers; a
hot pot of nacho cheese, jalapenos and tortillas and maybe the occasional
chocolate fountain. Something good and warming to set you up for drinks
and dinner later on.
The Après-Skibee Freebie is free to
residents, members and your guests. On warmer, sunnier days, we’ll do this
outside on the terrace. We’ve worked on our parking and our boot room to
make it easier to come straight in the side door off the mountain for
hassle-free après-ski.
Giant
paella Every Friday
from 7-10pm our chef prepares a giant chicken & chorizo paella for
residents and members. Help-yourself
salad, a large serving of paella, a mini-me dessert and a half bottle of
Rioja are €25 (€18 without
wine). Fridays have a relaxed and happy Balearic lounge feel to them with
music from Pathaan’s iPod.
Grande
tartiflette - If you’ve ever
tried one of those giant portions of sizzling potatoes and bacon, drenched
in bubbling Reblochon cheese and served with crusty bread straight from
the pan that they serve on the mountain, you’ll know what this is all
about.
We do this every
Sunday from 4-8pm
and it costs €25 including salad, a half bottle of delicious Riesling and
a chocolatey dessert. Last year, Sundays were great lazy days for a lot of
our local members and, to make things even better, we like to ask our
UK guests flying out to
Chamonix on Sundays to bring priceless
sharing copies of the Sunday papers with
them.
New
lunch If you are in
or around The Clubhouse at lunchtime rather than up a mountain where you
ought to be, we have a different piping hot soup every day (€5 for an
‘infinity bowl’) and we can usually rustle up a sandwich or a proper hot
dog for you from noon until 3pm for around €5-8.
New
from Action Chamonix Oli at Action
Chamonix has added a new day trip to his list of activities – the VALLEE
BLANCHE ‘ROYALE’. Ski the morning on Les Grands Montets then fly by
helicopter to the mid station of l’Aiguille du Midi cable car for the final ascent to 3841m. Your
mountain guide will take you down one of the many routes through the 21km
of spectacular glacial scenery. From 247€ pp with a 4 person
minimum.
New airline
to Geneva FlyGlobeSpan are now flying to
Geneva from
Stansted.
Not
new but still brilliant We’re still
doing the Steak
& Lobster Snow BBQ every
Tuesday.Food is served from 7-10pm and this costs €25 (chicken &
salmon) or €40 (steak & lobster) pp including all the help-yourself
green and potato salads you can eat. This was almost always our busiest
night last year and it’s important to book.
Sky
High Myla package We came up
with this ridiculous 3-day heli-ski-gourmet package before we knew how
quickly the rooms were getting booked up but we thought you should see it
anyway. It might be something you’d try next year and there are still a
couple of slots left in ‘06 when we could fit something like this in. Full
details are online
here.
More from us
in a couple of weeks.
