Torino 2006 Winter Olympics - Many congratulations to Antoine Deneriaz, the winner of the Olympic gold medal in Torino for the Men’s Downhill. He is the third Frenchman to win downhill Olympic gold since 1968.

Weather update – Not much to tell you since the last newsletter. There’s been some new snow in the last fortnight but nothing amazing. Conditions are still generally good all over. Lovely and sunny and crisp as you’d expect. More snow coming this week though with 40-60cm expected starting tomorrow.

Fire in the valley – Last week Cybar and Dick’s Tea Bar on the Rue des Moulins were both badly damaged by fire and it looks as though they will be closed for the whole season. The same is probably also true for the Queen Vic pub. Cybar will be missed but you can still pick up your emails for free at The Clubhouse using our WiFi and one of our laptops.

Advanced off-piste ski package – If you’re an advanced skier but haven’t tried the best of the off-piste in Chamonix yet, we’ve got a great 3 day package for you. We can also organise something similar but less challenging for very good intermediate skiers. Full details are online here but the trip will include skiing the Pas de Chevre all the way down to Chamonix (one of the world’s biggest and best off-piste descents), from Flegere descending via the Berade valley to Le Buet and either doing the Col du Passon with a stunning ski descent to Le Tour or a day’s heli-skiing in Italy.

We need a minimum group size of six to do this but this can be made up from different sized parties. If you’re interested in doing this and a 3 night early week stay at The Clubhouse we can run one for a group of six (or a group of four and a group of two) staying in the bunk rooms from Sun 12 March to  Wed 15 March. We can also do a group of ten (or a group of two, four or six) from Sun 26 March to Wed 29 March. We have other dates in April too. If you’ve already booked to come to Chamonix and would like to do something similar with a group of six or more at any other time, please contact Mountain Tracks direct.

Cham Film – If you’re interested in recording what you’re up to on the slopes in Chamonix, you contact ChamFilm via their website.

Feedback – If you’ve got any comments on your stay with us, on Chamonix, on your membership or on anything you think we should know about, please email jd@clubhouse.fr.

More from us in a couple of weeks.
