There are a few good places to eat in Chamonix and our favourites are: Casa ValerioGreat pizzas and good pasta just down the road from the Casino on the Rue de Lyret. 04 50 55 93 40 Satsuki This is the little Japanese place round the corner from The Clubhouse, left on Rue Vallot. They do a good set lunch for 10€. 04 50 53 21 99 MBC If it’s a burger and a pint you’re after, then MBC is it; just a short walk away from The Clubhouse (right on Rue Vallot, right across the bridge, wind your way through the sports centre and it’s right there at 350 Route de Bouchet). The beer is micro-brewed by Canadians at this busy bar and the food style is North American Fat & Massive. You’ll be mad to turn up for food without a booking. 04 50 53 61 59 Bistrot des Sports This is a popular local place year- round for a good lunch and a quick dinner. Left on to Rue Vallot, keep going at the crossroads and it’s 50m up on the left. 04 50 53 00 46 Munchie Munchie is on the Rue des Moulins and it’s pretty cool. Good world food and friendly staff. 04 50 53 45 41 Atmosphere Good French/Savoyard food in a pine-clad, riverside ‘basement’ near La Poste in Place Balmat. 04 50 55 97 97 Hameau Albert 1er This is Chamonix’s swankiest hotel which also happens to house Chamonix’s (s)wankiest restaurant – La Maison Carrier. You’ll hear lots of people recommend this place but we’ve only ever experienced over- priced traditional French food and snooty service. But see for yourself. Also at the hotel is Chamonix’s only 2* Michelin restaurant – The Albert 1er. The gastronomic menu here is excellent if a little out of place in Chamonix’s hard mountain environment and as with all French Michelin star restaurants, is very formal – every dish comes with at least three doilies. 04 50 53 00 03 La Bergerie de Planpraz This is one of the best mountain restaurants in the valley at mid station Brevent. 04 50 53 05 42 La Cremerie du Glacier This cosy little hut just off Pierre à Ric on the Grands Montets does great croûtes. 04 50 54 07 52 Tigre Tigre If you can’t last more than a week without a chicken tikka massala, then this curry paradise awaits. All the standard dishes plus Alpine touches and a smart dining area and bar. 04 50 55 33 42 Le Bistrot This place probably has the best food in Chamonix and it’s been recently refurbished. Chef Mickey won the two Michelin stars for Albert 1er before setting up shop here with co-owner Sylvian. Le Bistrot is in the Morgane Hotel on the Avenue de’Aguille du Midi. Mention The Clubhouse when booking to ensure a great welcome. 04 50 53 57 64 |
