Chamonix is pretty much a year round resort that offers a wide range of activities from the extreme ice climbing to the more relaxed spa day, so luckily there's something for everyone.
If you would like any more information on the activities below, prices and availability, or for your own tailored adrenalin packed activity package please click here.
Winter activities
Ski/boot/board hire
Members and residents receive a 15% discount on ski, boot and board hire from Cham Sports (out of the gate, right on to the Rue Vallot and you’ll find Bertrand and Fred 100m up the road on the right hand side).
Alternatively, if you insist on using only the latest kit, the swankier Ogier Sports has the best and newest selection available for a higher price but you get a 15% discount there too. Sanglard also give guests of The Clubhouse a 15% discount on ski and snowboard gear.
Lessons, guides etc.
Our main mountain partner for lessons, guiding, Vallée Blanche tours, all things off-piste, ski touring, snow-shoeing and ice climbing etc is Evolution 2. If you want to book any lessons or guiding, please do so yourself direct by calling 08 20 82 10 24.
Skiing/boarding in Italy
Courmayeur is less than 30mins away through the Mont Blanc tunnel. A round trip tunnel ticket for the 11km journey costs 41.40€ return or we might be able to lend you our multi-pass which will cost guests 15€.
Skiing/boarding in Switzerland
Verbier is about an hour’s drive away via Martigny for some sunny ‘snow-bowl’ skiing and outrageously expensive lunches.
Prestige – Outdoor Specialists
Oli at Prestige organises all kinds of day and night time activities in Chamonix, Courmayeur and beyond for the adventurous, romantic or gourmands amongst you - from snowmobile treks to farmhouse restaurants with torch-lit descents to helicopter drops at the Crémerie du Glacier in Winter to rafting the entire Dora Baltea, glacial hiking and golf trips in the Summer. If you are in Chamonix for a week, you should do at least one of Oli’s trips. Book direct on 06 80 20 83 70. There is more information on Oli’s trips later on in this guide.
Paragliding/parapente
If you fancy soaring above Chamonix for a 20 minute, 1,000m drop tandem flight, we recommend Summits (through the gate, left on to the Rue Vallot, right at the crossroads and they are 50m on your right in the arcade which is below street level) or call 04 50 53 50 14.
Regular flights cost 90€ per person (plus your Brevant lift ticket up to Plan Praz – one way) and you will need about an hour to get up, off, down and back. You can also fly from higher (including the Aiguille du Midi and Les Grands Montets) or book courses. Members get a 10% discount.
Helicopter stuff
Heli-skiing is illegal in France but the heli-ski season usually starts (in Italy) in January. Until then, we can arrange helicopter transfers for you, fantastic leisure flights over the Mont Blanc Massif or flights to Megève with CMBH. The Clubhouse has leased flight time at a discounted rate for the benefit of residents and members. Some flight options are set out further on in this guide.
Not on Snow
A fairly good day out involves taking the historic Montenvers Train up to 1900m, from where you can see, walk down and into the famous glacier, Mer de Glace. There’s an interesting, if not particularly good restaurant at the top too. There is also an Alpine Museum which is free of charge and open until 4pm. Trains run every hour from 10am until 3pm from the Montenvers Train Station and cost 23€.
